You may have seen the tag #theCatsEyeGang on all my photos of the cats who share their lives with me. What you may not know is that they are the inspiration for the characters in my manuscript I am currently working on.

The Tales of The Cat’s Eye Gang has been a labor of love as I have created characters that not only share each of the cat’s names but some of their characteristics. I decided when I began this story that I wanted to include my readers in the process and began a blog to share the story as I have been writing it.

Each post takes us into what I have written for the past few days, unedited, just as I wrote it. The first draft in all of its glorious calamity. You can find it on my author’s site here on WordPress or at its original home on Blogger. I have added the links below.

I am coming to the final chapters of the manuscript and thought now was the time to share the story of how the Cat’s Eye Gang was born. You can see all of the cat’s names simply by mousing over the photos. Enjoy!

Siesta

What is the old saying? Let sleeping dogs lie. I think that goes double for cats. Dominic and Neko declined to comment.

Silent Observer

Reach For The Stars

Remember always reach for the stars… or a great piece of string. This is my string. No one else is allowed to play with it. ~Dominic

 

Nope, I’m not touching Dominic’s string, you can’t prove it. Okay technically it is touching my paw, but it jumped out and got hooked on my claw. You believe me, right? ~Neko

Mama’s Helper

I am Mama’s helper today. She likes to shred paper this way and I like to hold the bucket still for her. You know buckets they are contrary beasties. I still don’t understand why Mama shreds this way when there is a machine to do that. Maybe she just likes to cover me with confetti.

Once I am done helping Mama with the bucket, I then saunter into Auntie’s room to see what I can assist her with. She looked a tad uncomfortable in her chair so I volunteered to be her back cushion. I don’t think she appreciated my effort.

Oh, well what’s a helpful guy like me have to do to earn his Purina Cat Chow around here.   ~Dominic

When stalking your prey, a great hunter learns to adapt. Take for instance while lying in wait for my prey, Gizmo or the girl kitty, CeCe, I had to create my hiding spot.

I did this by knocking the junk basket by the front door onto the floor.  As you can see the oddest things end up in the basket. Once this was done I find the perfect way to hide where I can peek thru the handle to keep my prey in sight.

 

Now I wait for them to make a move towards the food and /or water bowl. When I see that they have come out of hiding to steal a quick nibble or drink. I am reading to make my move. The only problem is I forget to watch for the humans.

 

Oops! Busted by Auntie. What’s a guy supposed to do when he gets caught hunting the new guy. What any self-respecting guy would do. Look cute and wait for her to go away so I can resume my stalking in privacy. A kitty’s work is never done.   ~Dominic

The Cat Whisperer

“Well, we need to watch over her while she sleeps, although how she can with Magic, the wonder dog snoring up there is beyond me. I’m going to just take a bath.” ~Bo Jangles

Neighborhood Watch

Remember to always keep an eye on the neighborhood. You never know when some strange cat will stroll into your yard or the lizards will come sun themselves right outside the window just to tease you. I will catch another one to give to Meowmy one of these days. ~Dominic

The house panther lies in wait for his unsuspecting prey. Stealth mode has been initiated. I will get those irritating birdies one of these days. ~Neko
